a clear, crackled ground, comprising a small, bulbous vase in pomegranate form painted with two panels of courtiers before a curtain of state, and a beauty and attendants on a seaside outing, punctuated by smaller panels containing torii gates and Mount Fuji, and a rocky shoreline with pine trees, the surrounding areas with geometric patterns, signed Matsumoto Shozan; a squat ewer set on tripod feet and applied with a spout and handle formed as coiling dragons, the cover with a serpent finial, the body painted with baskets of blossoming flowers, the underside with floral sprays, signed Hododa sei, Meigyoku ga and with the mark of the Shimazu family; a small ewer with a wide shoulder tapering to the foot and applied with a upright spout, the body painted with blossoming flowers on a bamboo stand, the shoulder with a lappet band and the cover with a chrysanthemum finial, signed Setsuko and with the mark of the Shimazu family
