The distinctive finish, strike, and color associated with this classic issue fully adorn this remarkable Choice quality specimen. Rich yellow-gold fields and devices are awash in the shimmering satin-velvet surface that differentiates High Relief double eagles from the typical 1907 low relief business strike. The characteristic swirls and die lines are entirely apparent in the fields on either side. In light of the size, softness, and unprotected nature of this design, it truly is astounding that such a specimen has survived in this state of preservation; it obviously received an inordinate amount of care both at the Mint and through the more than a century of time that has elapsed since it has been in collectors' hands. There are no marks or spots worthy of individual mention to serve as pedigree identifiers. Although not noted on the PCGS insert, this is a Wire Rim variety featuring a high, sharp wire edge. An important opportunity for an advanced numismatist. Housed in an early green label holder. (PCGS 9135)
